Hi Sandy – yes, it contains traces of milk. This should only be an issue if you’re very allergic to milk. If you’re just avoiding milk (or lactose intolerant) it is fine. If you are concerned about the trace amounts of dairy, you can try this completely dairy free starter: http://amzn.to/2FFhcoT

Hi J.L. – yes, tapioca is illegal on SCD. However, we think that tapioca can be a “safe starch” for many people who have done some healing on SCD and ready to introduce more foods. You should only eat it if it works for you. We’re less interested in following abstract set of rules and more interested in empowering people to find the diet that works best for their individual needs.

Flax eggs are another option for egg substitute – but if you don’t do well with nuts, flax might not be a good substitute for you. It is also illegal on SCD if you’re still following SCD strictly.

As for the yogurt – I wouldn’t make it with fewer probiotics – instead, I’d make it the right way and then VERY slowly introduce it – as little as a 1/2 teaspoon per day to start.

Hope this helps!

I’ve got a few questions: 1. Isn’t tapioca an SCD illegal ingredient because of the starch? Please clarify this as I trust your information and opinions. 2. What if I can’t tolerate gelatin; is there another substitute for eggs in baking recipes? 3. I haven’t had luck with home-made yogurt after many attempts. Is it possible to use less or half of the amount of the starter? I’m just not real tolerant to probiotics at this time. Looking forward to your responses and thanks again.
